Finally, Johnny II Bad is breaking out on their own to play a set at the wild maelstrom that is know as "The Monday Night Clusterfuck" at Nation Mechanics, another goddamned great place to grab some bar grub. J2B will doing their usual mix of reggae, gypsy, & various asundry ditties, scraping the bottom to blow it on up!
The ROOTS PROJECT are wrapping up the year (before Charlie marches with the Mummers) at one of Philly's most comfy Irish pubs, FERGIES. We're playing with Hunter's Cannon, who bring their own fiery brand of unplugged punk and don't mind a couple of swear words, neither. The show is free & Fergies has a great kitchen so come out & get yer Pub Grub on.
The ROOTS PROJECT and JOHNNY II BAD are returning to The Ugly American to rock roots & squeezebox! Originals, traditionals, americana, gypsy flavors, and reggae get mashed up and smashed up in one of South Philly's finest watering holes. The evening will be hosted by DJ The Most spinning a mix of Beatles/Bowies/Stones cuts.
We are doing an electric punk rock show Sat. Oct. 24th at the cozy Tritone, featuring protopunk supermodel Dave McMulling on drums & co-vocals.This will probably be our last rock & roll show this year, so me & Dave plan to pull out all the stops. We will be playing 1st on the bill around 9:30, followed by the dynamite Gary B. & the Notions (from Baltimore)& the excellent Hunter's Cannon!
We've posted our sweet soul molotov cocktail "Delaware" as the official single for our new album, along with a slew of live tracks from Boston, Philly, & beyond over the past 5 years, plus a sprinkle of studio obscurities to boot. It's all downloadable & free, so please enjoy!
We will be returning to the glamour of the illustrious Fire , doing a set that is 1/2 Grubstake originals & 1/2 covers from the annals of punk & elsewhere, with my old buddy & pal Dave McMullin.
I'm gonna be playing a stripped-down happy hour session next Friday (May 29th) at the Yello' Bar. It's 2 blocks south of 23rd & South, at 2425 Gray's Ferry Ave.
Welcome to the new website, a lot more streamlined & loaded with more goodies for your enjoyment! The music page has some live tracks and cuts from our latest "Make An Animal Noise", more to come soon.
The band has been getting a bit 2-headed since the egress of engineer/drummer/mad inventor Steve noTV last autumn. We have been working out a new punk-rock set of « originals (old & new) & « covers (Ramones, Replacements, Elvis Costello, etc.) with my old buddy & pal Dave McMullin; at the same time we've also been working on a more stripped down roots set with accordion & other touches, including a bunch of quieter tunes that have rarely seen the light of day.
